If you’re making the move to The Big Peach, you may have a lot of questions: where should I live? How do I get around? What is there to do? Moving to a city as big as Atlanta can be overwhelming, but all you need is a simple Atlanta moving guide for a quick overview of the basics.
Getting Around
Atlanta is served by Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, located in South Atlanta seven miles from the central business district. Hartsfield-Jackson is one of the busiest airports in the world, so before you fly in or out of Atlanta you’ll want to know what to expect. This helpful guide will tell you everything you need to know about navigating the airport and what services you’ll find there.
Atlanta also provides bus and train service through the Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority, with routes all around Atlanta as well as to and from Fulton.
Neighborhoods
Home to 242 different neighborhoods, Atlanta has plenty of options to suit your budget and lifestyle. Virginia Highlands is a quiet, upscale area north of the rapidly-growing Old Fourth Ward. Edgewood and Cabbage Town have trendy cafes and shops, though rent is quickly rising in these neighborhoods. Generally, east Atlanta neighborhoods are safer, particularly those north of the I-75/85 connector. Buckhead, Brookhaven, Vinings, and North Druid Hills are among Atlanta’s safest neighborhoods. If you’re looking for a walking-friendly neighborhood, you’ll want to look at Inman Park, Decatur, and the Westside. Chandler Park, Grant Park, and the West End are also popular neighborhoods in the city.

If you’re a sports fan, you’ll find plenty of sporting events every year. Atlanta hosts the annual Celebration Bowl and is home to major league professional baseball, basketball, football, and soccer teams.
Shopping
Little Five Points is Atlanta’s main shopping district. It’s located three miles east of Peachtree Street just north of east Atlanta and has plenty of shops, restaurants, and things to see. The main attraction here is the street art; you’ll see all kinds of art decorating the buildings in the district. Atlanta is also home to many malls, including Lenox Square and Cumberland Mall in north Atlanta and Greenbriar Mall further south.
As you can see, The Big Peach has no shortage of places to live or things to do. From a vibrant nightlife to amusement parks to shopping, you’ll find something exciting no matter what your style is.
