Bethany Tietjen is a PhD candidate at The Fletcher School at Tufts University and a Junior Research Fellow at the Climate Policy Lab. Her research focuses on climate adaptation policy, with attention to climate displacement, climate finance, and environmental justice, all matters connected to loss and damage policy. Her current research looks at adaptation policy gaps in the United States as well as international adaptation assistance and its integration into foreign policy decision-making. Her work on development issues includes former positions at USAID and at NGOs in Vietnam and Guatemala. She received her M.A. in Law and Diplomacy from The Fletcher School and her B.A. in International Studies and German Studies from American University in Washington, D.C.
